NAPANEE, Ontario, Nov. 25, 2025 — FireRein Inc. was one of 26 companies selected from over
700 applicants, to present at this year’s Envision Conference in San Francisco. Envest’s annual
conference brings leading climate investors together with high-growth climate startups with
standout solutions.
FireRein, an Ontario company founded by firefighters with a mission to develop effective, non-toxic
firefighting solutions, was selected to present its groundbreaking firefighting solution Eco-GelTM
Zackery Hodgen, firefighter, co-founder and VP of Business Development, shared with investors
that he accepted certain risks as a firefighter but was not prepared for the loss of colleagues to
occupational cancer, now the leading cause of firefighter fatalities in Canada. After discovering the
scope of “greenwashing” and “regrettable substitution” in firefighting, meaning continued
exposure to toxic chemicals, FireRein’s co-founders set out to develop a revolutionary firefighting
solution in terms of safety and efficacy.
Eco-Gel, which is both a suppressant and short-term retardant, is the only UL Listed and Verified
Class A&B firefighting water additive that is USDA Certified as 100% Biobased. Unlike other
solutions that have high ecotoxicity levels, Eco-Gel is non-toxic and environmentally benign. Eco-
Gel’s impact also includes significantly faster fire suppression for reduced CO2 emissions, 40%
less water usage, and less fire damage and exposure to the toxic byproducts of fire.
Hodgen announced at Envision that the Royal Canadian Navy Fire Marshal recently completed
comprehensive testing which demonstrated Eco-Gel’s superior efficacy, and safety, as a drop-in-
ready alternative to PFAS-containing firefighting foams, and fluorine free foams which can be
highly toxic and less effective.
Hodgen’s presentation discussed the impact of wildfires globally, including CO2 emissions,
community devastation, and economic loss, and how Eco-Gel is uniquely positioned to protect
communities as a fire retardant and in direct attacks, for more effective fire protection, faster fire
suppression, and reignition prevention, without harming the environment or human health, at a
lower overall cost of use compared to traditional solutions.
1 of 2With respect to participating at Envision, Hodgen said “Our Envision experience was phenomenal.
The opportunity to share Eco-Gel’s impact with engaged climate investors who are experts in their
field, and meet like-minded leaders in innovation, was invaluable.
Quincy Emmons, firefighter, co-founder and President, added “FireRein is entering a period of
rapid growth, scaling Eco-Gel’s impact to protect people and the environment. We are grateful for
the ongoing support from the entire team at Envest and their commitment to accelerating
responsible, impactful investment.”Breakthrough to Global Climate Investors at Envision.
